At some time in your life maybe you have taken a short cut on that road trip and found yourself in the middle of West Virginia and realized that stopping to get something to eat is not quite as easy as you thought. You can go for miles upon miles with nothing but more hills, breathtaking vistas and winding roads when you really want to see the golden arches of McDonald's (MCD) or Wendy's (WEN) smiling face.
Maybe you were on a camping trip when you couldn't catch any fish and then realized the friendly bear enjoyed your lunch for you. And you were miles from nowhere so supper was going to be small that night; just those few wild berries you found and that one granola bar split three ways. Or it could be that time you were traveling and yearning for a little taste of home, when you saw those American brand names in a distant land.
In America we are very dependent on our convenience foods and fast food restaurants. Usually we only realize this when for some unforeseen reason they are gone or not available. Like when a hurricane comes through or the winter ice storm causes us to restlessly stir from cabin fever.
